In embracing a new chapter, I found so much more than just a change of location. It led to a transformation of my life, connecting with my community, finding a career I love and creating a perfect life for my family and me.
Moving to Indianapolis marked the beginning of a significant chapter in my life. I relocated in 1993, driven by a desire to have a fresh start. Fortunately, I had family in Indianapolis, which made the move less intimidating but still thrilling.
At 19, starting over in a new city was certainly a big undertaking. Initially, I dreamed of owning a dance studio, as I had been a ballerina and taught classes in New York. However, the reality of establishing myself in a new place quickly shifted my plans. I moved into an apartment community that had a vibrant social network, complete with a resident director and events, which helped me settle in. I became friends with the people who managed the place and eventually started working as a leasing consultant. I carried with me the self-discipline and determination learned through dance into my professional life.
I worked as a leasing consultant for about three years, then moved into management within the same company. I loved the job, especially helping people find their new homes. This experience sparked my passion for real estate. There’s something incredibly fulfilling about guiding someone to find a place they can call home and witnessing their joy and relief firsthand. This role gave me the opportunity to connect with people on a deeply personal level, helping them navigate one of the most significant decisions in their lives.
After realizing I had achieved everything I could at the company I was with, I transitioned into new home sales. A friend introduced me to this field, highlighting the potential for unlimited income. After shadowing her, I decided to take the leap. In new home sales, I utilized my previous experience in leasing and quickly adapted to the new role as a leasing agent. My first significant experience with new construction was when I opened a new apartment community in Virginia. Despite the challenges during my time as a leasing agent, this role gave me valuable insights into the construction process, which proved beneficial when I later transitioned to general real estate sales. I loved watching a new community built from the ground up.
In 2001, I decided to get my real estate license to have more control over my schedule, especially after having my first child. Although the flexibility meant more hours, it allowed me to balance work and family life better. By 2008, I joined a relocation company to provide more stability, working with major corporations like Eli Lilly and Roche.
In 2010, I joined RE/MAX for its global recognition and support, particularly during challenging market times with short sales and foreclosures. Over the years, I have moved into management roles along with coaching and training other agents. This aligns with my passion for helping others, something that has driven me throughout my entire career.
Real estate has transformed my life in ways I couldn’t have imagined. It’s not just about selling houses; it’s about building communities and fostering relationships. I love the dynamic nature of this work—each day brings new challenges and opportunities to learn. The joy of handing over keys to a new homeowner never gets old. It’s a privilege to be part of such a significant moment in people’s lives, and that keeps me motivated every day.
My husband, Brian, a home builder, and I have parallel careers, which has been a great support system. Our daughter, Bristol, has followed in his footsteps, becoming a construction manager for a national builder. We also have twins, Rocco and Archer, now 8 years old. They keep me involved in our local community and schools, which has been incredible.
Through all these transitions, the core of my journey has been about adapting, learning and finding joy in helping others. Real estate has given me a purpose and a passion that continues to grow, shaping not only my career but my entire life.
As a REALTOR®, one of my greatest strengths is marketing. I approach every listing with a strategic mindset, focusing on how to best promote that unique property to attract the right buyers. This skill is crucial for sellers, as it ensures their homes are presented in the most appealing and effective way. My background also includes extensive experience with buyer representation. I spent the first five years as a licensed broker solely working as a Buyer’s Agent. I found a passion representing buyers and providing them with the education and guidance that need to make the most informed decisions in purchasing a house. I believe home ownership is a powerful too, and I want to help as many people as I can achieve it.
Given my background in new construction, I bring a lot of knowledge and expertise to the building process. Many people assume they don't need a REALTOR® when buying new construction because there’s a sales agent in the model home. However, having been that sales agent, I know the importance of having your own advocate. I am with you from start to finish, ensuring your interests are protected and helping navigate any issues that arise. With over two decades of experience, I am confident I can help bring your dreams to life and create a positive, memorable experience along the way!
Sincerely,
Denise Wilson
